Wood County Sheriff's Office Reports a Week of Incidents from July 12th to July 18th

he Wood County Sheriff's Office has been kept busy over the past week, responding to various incidents ranging from criminal mischief to missing persons. Here's a summary of the incidents that occurred between July 12th and July 18th:

July 12th:

  • Deputy Kovic responded to a criminal mischief report on County Road 4470, where the victim's vehicle tires were punctured. The victim suspects their ex-husband as the culprit, and the house was placed on extra patrol.
  • Deputy Comeaux was dispatched to a theft on County Road 1540. The caller claimed that their car seat and phone were left in a friend's car, but the friend's girlfriend threw the items in her front yard and refused to return the phone.
  • Sgt Mayer and Deputy Hughes responded to a runaway juvenile case in Mineola. The juvenile was located at a residence and safely returned to their parents.
  • Sgt Mayer and Deputy Hughes were dispatched to a gunshot victim on County Road 4471. However, Camp County authorities were already present and took over the case.
  • Deputy Rapp conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 80 and arrested Timothy Sirus for driving under the influence after almost colliding with Deputy Rapp's vehicle while driving on the wrong side of the road.

July 13th:

  • Deputies assisted the Quitman PD at the Quitman ER in arresting a male for criminal trespass. The individual had refused to leave the hospital premises after being brought there the previous night.
  • Deputies investigated a theft case where the caller paid money for items advertised on Facebook, but the seller didn't deliver the items as promised due to hacking.

July 14th:

  • Sgt Morrison, Deputy Pollard, and Deputy McGee responded to a disturbance on FM 778, where a male was cutting his legs with a knife and slamming his head against the patrol vehicle. The male was transported for treatment.
  • Deputy Pollard took an assault call from a female who refused to provide additional information before hanging up.

July 15th:

  • Deputy Croney took a fraud report by phone, where a credit card was charged for unauthorized items after sending a letter to an inmate.
  • Deputy Croney responded to a report of a missing boat on County Road 1699. The owner is unsure if the boat drifted off or was stolen.
  • Sgt Morrison and Deputy Pollard were dispatched to a criminal trespass on County Road 1431, where the suspect was given a trespass warning based on camera footage.
  • Sgt Williams and Deputy Smith responded to an assault on Hwy 154, where the suspect pushed a victim down and fled the scene.
  • Deputy Smith conducted a traffic stop and arrested Zachary Newman, who was wanted and found in possession of meth during the stop.

July 16th:

  • Sgt Morrison and Deputy Pollard responded to an assault on County Road 2150, where the victim texted 911 for help. The victim escaped, and the suspect was detained and arrested for assault.
  • Deputy Pollard received a call about a previously missing boat that had been located but was now missing again and believed to be stolen.
  • Corporal Rapp assisted Mineola PD in locating a missing vehicle.

July 17th:

  • Deputy Wisenhunt received a report of a suspicious vehicle where a passenger jumped out, jumped over a fence, and returned to the van before leaving.

July 18th:

  • Deputy Kovic responded to an identity theft report on Hwy 37, where the victim's account had been fraudulently charged, resulting in 35 pending charges.
  • Deputy Rapp was dispatched to a theft on County Road 2686, where a large sum of cash was stolen from a shop, and a possible suspect was identified.
  • Deputy Rapp responded to a terroristic threat on County Road 3802, where a brother threatened his sister, leading to an offense report being filed.
  • Deputy Hughes responded to a missing juvenile case, with Galveston County Sheriff's Office assisting in locating the juvenile.
  • Deputy Comeaux responded to a criminal trespass, discovering the suspect had bond conditions preventing contact with the victim, leading to the filing of an offense report.
