The Gregg County Sheriff’s Office arrested 63-year-old Toby Bennett on Friday, April 18, 2025, for Cruelty to a Non-Livestock Animal, a third-degree felony. The arrest followed an investigation into a report of a dog being shot in the northern part of the county.
Deputies responding to the scene determined that probable cause existed to arrest Bennett for allegedly shooting and killing a neighbor’s dog while the animal was on its owner’s property.
Bennett was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Gregg County Jail on the felony charge.
The Gregg County Sheriff’s Office emphasized its commitment to taking all allegations of animal cruelty seriously and ensuring the safety and welfare of both people and animals in the community.
