In the early hours of January 22, 2025, the Longview Fire Department responded to a house fire at 119 Garfield Street. Fire crews arrived around 4:30 a.m. to find heavy flames coming from the back of the home.

Three occupants had escaped the residence and informed firefighters that two others remained inside. Crews immediately began search and rescue operations alongside firefighting efforts.

A mother and her disabled son were rescued from the burning home and transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Tragically, the mother succumbed to her injuries, while her son was later airlifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for further treatment.
