The Paris Fire Department swiftly responded to a report of smoke coming from the roof of the Lamar County Courthouse on Sunday, January 5, 2025, just before 10:00 am. Firefighters located and extinguished the fire, which had caused significant water damage to the building's fourth floor.
At approximately 9:45 am, a passerby contacted the City of Paris Emergency Dispatch, alerting them to smoke emerging from the roof of the courthouse located at 119 North Main. In response, the Paris Fire Department, along with units from Paris EMS and the Police Department, rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters worked to contain the blaze on the roof. While the fire was quickly suppressed, water from the firefighting efforts caused damage to much of the fourth floor of the courthouse. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among firefighters or anyone in the building.
By 11:15 am, all Paris Fire Department units had cleared the scene. Both the City of Paris and the Texas State Fire Marshal’s offices are investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, Lamar County employees have begun addressing the fire and water damage to the structure.
