Traffic Stop Leads to Meth Arrests for Two Paris Women

Kala Michelle Akins and Brenda Lee Harris

On Sunday, December 22, 2024, at approximately 10:49 p.m., a Paris police officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1800 block of Polk Street for an expired registration violation. During the stop, the officer identified the three vehicle occupants, including 35-year-old Kala Michelle Akins of Chicota, who was asked to exit the vehicle. Upon her exit, clear baggies containing a crystalline substance, later determined to be methamphetamine, were found in plain view.

A second officer arrived to assist, and the other occupants were asked to exit the vehicle. A purse containing a pill bottle with the name "Harris" written on it was found in the back seat near 61-year-old Brenda Lee Harris of Blossom. The purse contained a baggie of methamphetamine.

Akins and Harris were both arrested for Felony Possession of Controlled Substance (Meth). The front passenger was released from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
