A 65-year-old man, Donald Ross Chism, was arrested on December 21, 2024, following a family disturbance in the 500 block of Bonham Street. The victim reported that a verbal argument escalated when Chism allegedly choked her, making it difficult for her to breathe and leaving her fearing for her life. While attempting to call 9-1-1, her phone was reportedly taken by Chism to prevent the emergency call.
Chism admitted to taking the phone but denied the strangulation. He was taken into custody and booked into the Paris Jail on charges of Assault, Family Violence/Strangulation (3rd Degree Felony) and Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance (Class A Misdemeanor). The victim also requested an Emergency Protective Order.
The investigation is ongoing.
