Derrick Wayne Roberson, 32, a convicted felon from Houston, has been sentenced to 235 months in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs.
Roberson pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone handed down the sentence on December 19, 2024.
Court documents revealed that Roberson was part of a drug trafficking organization operating from Houston into East Texas. He distributed methamphetamine, heroin, and a fentanyl analogue, and trafficked firearms. Roberson transported contraband from Houston to East Texas, selling large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl. He also sold firearms, including a handgun equipped with a "Glock switch," which converts it into a fully automatic machine gun.
Roberson has prior felony convictions for robbery, felony theft, and evading law enforcement with a motor vehicle. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
This case was prosecuted under the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime by targeting the most violent offenders and supporting community-based prevention programs.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Texas Department of Public Safety – Criminal Investigations, and the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald S. Carter.
