A Port Arthur man, Kemien Sharod Taylor, 51, has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearm possession violations in the Eastern District of Texas, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs.
Taylor, a convicted felon, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone delivered the sentence on December 19, 2024.
Court documents revealed that in November 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a residence on 12th Street in Port Arthur, where Taylor had previously sold crack cocaine. During the search, Taylor directed officers to a stolen firearm in a bedroom closet. The firearm had been reported stolen in Houston. Officers also discovered crack cocaine, Pyrex bowls with cocaine residue, and digital scales.
As a convicted felon, Taylor is prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.
This case was prosecuted as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, a Department of Justice initiative focused on reducing violent crime through enforcement and prevention efforts.
The investigation was conducted by the Port Arthur Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Quinn prosecuted the case.
