A chaotic scene erupted on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in the Windmill Farms subdivision in Forney, Texas, involving a large public disturbance with approximately 300 people. The incident resulted in one teenager being shot and a Forney ISD police officer assaulted.
Kaufman County Sheriff's detectives, Forney Police Department officers, DPS troopers, and constables responded to the scene near US Hwy 80 and Irongate Blvd. A teenager who was shot was airlifted to a Dallas hospital via medical helicopter. A second teenager sustained injuries from shrapnel when a firearm was discharged during a struggle but was not directly struck by a bullet.
The Forney ISD police officer was assaulted while attempting to break up a fight and struggled with a juvenile suspect who took the officer’s firearm. The gun was discharged during the altercation, causing shrapnel injuries. The incident triggered an “officer needs emergency help” call, leading officers from eight different agencies to respond.
As the situation escalated, the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office declared an unlawful assembly. Law enforcement maintained a large presence in the area for hours to restore order.
At 5:26 p.m., the Forney Police Department advised residents to avoid the area of Rockpile and Hereford while investigators processed the scene.
