Gas Line Rupture in Melissa Forces Evacuations, Temporary Shelter Set Up

Construction crews inadvertently damaged a 6-inch gas main earlier today near Melissa Rd. and Fannin St., prompting an immediate response from Atmos Energy, which is on-site assessing and repairing the damage.

As a safety precaution, an evacuation order has been issued for the 2600 and 2700 blocks of McKinney St. and the Villages of Melissa. Emergency personnel are assisting with evacuations to ensure public safety. A temporary shelter has been established at the High School cafeteria at 3030 Milrany Ln. for evacuated residents.

The estimated time for resolution is approximately three hours. In the meantime, Melissa Rd. and Fannin St. are temporarily closed, and motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Authorities are working closely with Atmos Energy to resolve the situation as quickly and safely as possible. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
