On Saturday, November 23, the Longview Police Department requested assistance from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office in pursuing a burglary suspect who had left their jurisdiction and was reportedly traveling on Smelley Road. The victim of the burglary followed the suspect’s vehicle and provided authorities with a description and the name of a possible suspect, 51-year-old Stephen Eugene Tolar, before losing sight of the vehicle.
Harrison County deputies responded to the 2800 block of Noonday Road in Hallsville, Tolar’s listed address. Upon arrival, deputies located the described vehicle in the driveway and found Tolar removing items from the truck.
When approached, Tolar became agitated by the deputies' presence. As they attempted to detain him for further investigation, Tolar resisted, leading to a brief altercation before he was taken into custody.
The victim of the burglary declined to press charges, requesting only the return of their property, which was recovered and returned. Tolar was transported to the Harrison County Jail, where he was charged with Resisting Arrest or Search. His bond was set at $2,000.
