Two Denison Men Charged with Murder in Fatal Fentanyl Overdose Case

Gregory Noah Honesty III

The Denison Police Department has arrested two Denison residents—34-year-old Andrew Michael Smith and 26-year-old Gregory Noah Honesty III—on Murder charges following the death of 20-year-old Macie Joe Chastain from a fatal fentanyl overdose.

On Thursday, September 5, officers responded to a residence in the Perrin Estates neighborhood where Chastain was found unconscious. Despite life-saving efforts by Denison Fire personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her cause of death as multidrug toxicity, including methamphetamine and fentanyl.

The investigation revealed that Smith had provided Chastain with fentanyl-laced pills. Further evidence indicated that Honesty had sold the fentanyl-laced pills to Smith.

On Thursday, November 21, Denison police, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, arrested Smith on a Murder warrant in the 700 block of East Gandy Street in Denison. Smith is currently held in the Grayson County Jail, with bail pending.

Honesty, who was already out on bond for a separate Murder charge in Collin County related to a fatal fentanyl overdose in Princeton, Texas, was also served an additional Murder charge for Chastain’s death. He remains in custody in the Collin County Jail.

These arrests mark the first in Grayson County under a state law enacted on September 1, 2023, that establishes Murder charges for individuals who supply fentanyl leading to a fatal overdose.
