On November 12, 2024, at approximately 2:30 pm Horn High School Staff and the Mesquite Police Department were notified of an Aggravated Sexual Assault that had taken place on campus. The investigation revealed that a male suspect, who is not a student, had gained unauthorized access into the school. It was determined that an individual who is a student at Horn High School on Cartwright Rd, opened an exterior door allowing the suspect into the school bypassing standard procedures for entry.
Once inside, the suspect located the victim, whom he previously had a dating relationship with. He assaulted her and used a weapon to force her into a bathroom, where the sexual assault occurred. After the incident a teacher observed the suspect and attempted to identify him, but he fled the school.
The investigation identified the suspect as Synniaz Elijah, a 19-year-old male from Seagoville, Texas. At approximately 9:45 pm on November 12, 2024, the Mesquite Police Department executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence where he was located and taken into custody. Elijah has been charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
