Kilgore Police Officers were dispatched to a crash near I-20 and TX-42 in Kilgore overnight. The vehicle involved was identified as stolen from Louisiana. A witness reported seeing a male and female walking away from the scene. Later, individuals matching their descriptions were seen near a hotel.
While one group of officers handled the crash scene and processed the vehicle for evidence, Sergeant Burns monitored the hotel where the duo was believed to have gone. His vigilance paid off when a female matching the description exited a room and was detained for questioning. Shortly afterward, the male exited the room, looking for the female. Gregg County Deputies had arrived by this time to assist Sgt. Burns. Both individuals were uncooperative.
Officers detected the smell of marijuana coming from the hotel room, providing probable cause for further action. The male was detained, but continued to resist, prompting Sgt. Burns to subdue him physically. Inside the hotel room, officers found the key to the stolen vehicle and drug paraphernalia.
A Detective was called to obtain a search warrant for the room. The search revealed a substantial amount of methamphetamine, MDMA, and a gun with an extended magazine. The male suspect was discovered to be wanted out of New Orleans for multiple charges, including armed robbery.
Both suspects are now in custody at the Kilgore Jail, bringing their crime spree to an end.
