On Saturday, July 20th, Paris Police officers approached Jairus Naqwell Garnes, 20, in the 1000 block of NE 8th St., recognizing him from outstanding arrest warrants.
Garnes, who admitted to having a handgun in his backpack, was found with the firearm’s serial number altered. Further investigation revealed Garnes to be a convicted felon. He was charged with three warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, one warrant for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and on-view charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Tampering with Identifying Numbers.
Garnes was booked and transported to Lamar County Jail. This arrest relates to a shooting incident at Booker T Washington Apartments on July 9.
