On June 29, 2024, at approximately 7:11 p.m., officers from the Nacogdoches Police Department responded to a report of a possible drowning at the west side park of Lake Nacogdoches. Multiple agencies, including the Nacogdoches Police Department, Nacogdoches Fire Department, Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, and Texas Game Wardens, joined the search for the victim. After a thorough search by first responders and civilians, the Nacogdoches Police and Fire Rescue Dive Team located the deceased victim near the area where he was last seen.
The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Caleb Arthurs from Nacogdoches, Texas. Preliminary information indicates that Arthurs was swimming with family and friends when he was last seen. The Justice of the Peace from Precinct 1 has requested an autopsy.
