An emergency room patient at UT-Health Quitman stole an ambulance on Tuesday night, according to local police. Hospital staff notified the Quitman Police Department that an unattended patient had left the premises and taken the ambulance.
Responding officers quickly located the ambulance, which was being driven by 51-year-old Ruby Diane Alston of Quitman. Upon arrest, officers observed that Alston was still wearing a hospital gown and had an IV port in her arm.
Alston has been charged with Theft of Property valued between $30,000 and $150,000. She is currently being held in the Wood County jail on a $30,000 bond.
