On Thursday, June 6, 2024, a Lamar County jury convicted 58-year-old David Brandon Bowlby of Kaufman of murder. The state accused Bowlby of killing 58-year-old Charles Peck of Van Zandt County in March 2023. Peck’s body was found on the property of Daisy Farms, located southeast of Paris.
Bowlby chose to have Judge Wes Tidwell decide his sentence. Given Bowlby’s criminal history, which included serving 20 years in prison for murdering his mother, Judge Tidwell sentenced him to life in prison.
Lamar County District Attorney Gary Young prosecuted the case, while Heath Hyde of Sulphur Springs represented Bowlby.
