Oncor Issues Power Update: Over 600,000 Homes and Businesses Affected

Oncor, the largest utility company in Texas, has issued a significant power update, revealing that more than 600,000 homes and businesses are currently without power as of 3 p.m. The company has warned customers to brace for extended outages due to the severe damage caused by recent events.

The damage is so extensive that complete reconstruction of electric facilities will be necessary in many cases. This includes the replacement of utility poles and transformers before new power lines can be installed. Additionally, Oncor vegetation management personnel are tasked with clearing tree limbs and other debris from power lines before repairs can commence.

To address the crisis, Oncor has mobilized its teams and requested additional support from utility partners across Texas and other states. However, safety remains the top priority for both the teams and the public. The company urges individuals to exercise caution and avoid approaching downed power lines. If a downed power line is spotted, people are advised to keep their distance, keep pets and others away, and immediately call 911.

Touching a downed power line or anything in contact with it poses a significant risk of electrocution. To report a power outage or check its status, customers can text OUT to 66267, use the MyOncor app, or click "Report an Outage" on the map.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by the power outages, Oncor expresses gratitude for the patience of both customers and the public as restoration efforts continue. Further updates will be provided as they become available, according to the ONCOR Area Manager.
