Fire at Royse City Historic Church Prompts Multi-Department Response

Royse City Fire Chief Tanner Dietz provided an update on a commercial structure fire at First United Methodist Church on May 28, 2024. At around 10:50 am, the Royse City Fire Department responded to the blaze at 305 N. Josephine St. Initial responders found heavy involvement in the attic and commenced fire suppression and search efforts.

Additional assistance was requested from various departments including Fate Department of Public Safety, Rockwall Fire Department, Rockwall CERT, Caddo Mills Fire Department, McLendon Chisholm Fire Department, Rockwall County EMS, Royse City Police Department, Royse City Public Works, and Rockwall County Road & Bridge.

The fire was contained to the main building, sparing Wesley Hall and the Food Pantry structures. Investigation into the cause of the fire is underway by the Royse City Fire Marshal's Office.
