Hutchins Police Department Receives Grant for 911 Call Center Technology Upgrade

The Hutchins Police Department is thrilled to announce its selection as a recipient of $699,123.23 in grant funding aimed at enhancing the technology of the Hutchins 911 call center.

This funding, made available through Senate Bill 8 Section 30, appropriates $150 million from the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds to the Next Gen 9-1-1 Fund. The aim is to bolster the deployment and reliable operation of next-generation 9-1-1 services, including equipment and administration costs.

The upgrade promises various benefits, including improved call processing times, enhanced data exchange, and the introduction of multimedia capabilities. These advancements are expected to optimize call processing times, potentially leading to faster emergency response and saving lives.

Moreover, the new system will facilitate the exchange of additional data and information between 911 call centers and responders, enhancing situational awareness and responder safety. Multimedia capabilities will allow the center to receive video emergency calls, support text-based communication and translation, and integrate telematics data, such as vehicle location and sensor information.

While Next Gen 9-1-1 holds the promise of improved emergency response services, it also necessitates adaptation in call center operations, staff training, and the adoption of new technologies.

The Hutchins Police Department looks forward to implementing these upgrades, which will undoubtedly enhance their ability to serve and protect the community effectively.
