Kaufman County Father Convicted for Deadly Assault on Son

Kaufman County's Criminal District Attorney, Erleigh Norville Wiley, has announced the conviction of Shannon Lynn Wiley, aged 53, for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury to a Family Member, a first-degree felony offense.

Shannon Lynn Wiley was found guilty by a jury on April 9, 2024, after a six-day trial. Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Shannon Lynn Wiley had engaged in a conflict with his 31-year-old son, Jannsen Wiley. During the altercation, Shannon Lynn Wiley recklessly introduced a firearm and discharged it, resulting in the death of his son.

The jury sentenced Shannon Lynn Wiley to 10 years of imprisonment and recommended community supervision. Honorable B. Michael Chitty, following the jury's recommendation, placed Shannon Lynn Wiley on community supervision for 10 years.

The prosecution was led by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Lyndi Brooks and Marc Moffitt, with assistance from District Attorney Investigator Kyle Bratcher. District Attorney Erleigh Wiley stated, "The Kaufman County District Attorney’s Office does not consider family violence a family matter. It is a crime. The widow of Jannsen Wiley and his maternal family will be forever affected by this senseless act of violence in our community."

The efforts of the Mabank Police Department and Texas Ranger Bruce Sherman in assisting with the prosecution of this case were also acknowledged by the District Attorney.
