Fatal Collision on State Highway 36 in Temple: Overturned Load Traps Vehicle, Two Dead

This morning at 11:20 am, Temple Fire and Rescue rushed to a Motor Vehicle Collision on State Highway 36, just west of Hwy 317. Upon arrival, responders found an oversized load had slipped off its trailer, trapping a vehicle underneath. The load, weighing around 350,000 lbs, was being transported, but its identity remains unknown. The vehicle underneath held three occupants, tragically resulting in two fatalities while the third was airlifted to the ER with severe injuries. It took over 4 hours to safely free the driver from the wreckage.

Temple Fire and Rescue, supported by a contingent of 10 units and 25 personnel, spearheaded the response effort. They were joined by various agencies and teams including Georgetown Fire Department Special Operations Team, Killeen Fire Department Special Operations Team, Belton Fire Department, Temple Police Department, TX DPS, TX DOT, PHI Air Medical, Baylor Scott & White Surgical Staff, Temple EMS, Temple Towing, Wards Towing, and Grones Environmental. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation.

As the cleanup and recovery operations persist, the road remains closed with crews working at the scene.
