Gladewater ISD Adopts Four-Day School Week

In a unanimous decision on Monday, the Gladewater ISD board of trustees announced plans to transition to a four-day school week for the upcoming academic year. Unlike some other districts opting for a Friday-free schedule, Gladewater schools will now be closed on Mondays.

Ross Morgan, president of the school board, highlighted the move's aim to enhance teacher recruitment and retention, providing educators with increased flexibility in their personal lives.

"In striving to remain competitive in the job market and attract talented staff, it's crucial to offer unique benefits," Morgan stated. "One significant factor we considered was the challenge many teachers face when scheduling medical appointments for themselves or family members. With many doctor's offices closed or operating for limited hours on Fridays, opting for Mondays off emerged as a practical solution."
