On April 18th, 2024, Tyler County Deputies swiftly responded to a distress call on County Road 4770, just south of Warren, Texas. They arrived to find a male victim, later identified as Earnest Williams, aged 35 from Woodville, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Following diligent investigation and aided by evidence and statements collected at the scene, deputies secured search and arrest warrants from Justice of the Peace Mike Hughes.
On April 19th, 2024, at approximately 5:00AM, deputies executed a search warrant at a residence located on County Road 4400 in Town Bluff. There they apprehended Cody Knight, aged 33, from Town Bluff, and recovered a .22 caliber rifle.
Knight was promptly arrested and transported to the Tyler County Jail, where he was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Justice of the Peace Mike Hughes set bond at $500,000.
On April 20th, 2024, Earnest Williams succumbed to his injuries at a Houston area hospital. Consequently, Cody Knight's charges were upgraded to murder, and Justice of the Peace Tina Self set bond at $500,000. Knight remains in the Tyler County Jail with bonds totaling $1,000,000.00.
