On April 16, 2024, a coordinated operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies led to the arrest of 21-year-old Cameron Deshaun Payton in Daingerfield. Payton was wanted on charges of Sexual Assault of a Child and Evading Arrest/Detention With a Vehicle.
The successful arrest was the result of a collaborative effort by the Marshall Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, the Joint Harrison County Violent Crime and Narcotics Task Force, Harrison County Sheriff's Office, Daingerfield Police Department, Morris County Sheriff's Office, and Texas DPS CID.
Payton is currently held in Morris County Jail and will be transferred to Harrison County Jail. The investigation also uncovered weapons with illegal modifications. Additional charges are expected.
Marshall Police Chief Cliff Carruth commended the operation, stating, “This is a great example of how our local and regional law enforcement can work together to apprehend individuals accused of serious crimes, ensuring the safety and security of our community.”
