Severe Storms Cause Widespread Power Outages in East Texas, Restoration Efforts Underway

Severe storms hit the Ark-La-Tex region, causing widespread damage and power outages. SWEPCO, along with assistance from sister utilities like PSO (Oklahoma) and AEP Texas, is working tirelessly to restore power to affected areas.

Specialized equipment and tactics are being used due to flooding and difficult terrain. Crews have utilized ground, air, and water resources to access remote locations for repairs.

In Longview, water patrols are securing heavily flooded areas, while in Texarkana, railroad traffic was halted for repairs.

Initial assessments in Natchitoches revealed downed power lines and fallen trees, necessitating specialized equipment for repairs.

Approximately 19,000 SWEPCO customers remain without power as of 6 p.m. on Wednesday, down from a peak of 35,000 outages.

Additional crews from various districts and sister companies are aiding in the restoration efforts.
