On Saturday, April 6, 2024, around 11:23 pm, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Rickman and Deputy Matich responded to a call reporting shots fired. Due to the severity of the situation, Henderson County requested assistance from the Athens Police Department. Upon arrival, an Athens Police Officer witnessed Elvin Caballero-Lazo throwing a pistol onto the floor of a vehicle and promptly detained him.

Sergeant Rickman joined the scene and discovered that approximately 15 rounds had been fired. He initiated an investigation into the incident. During the course of the investigation, Deputy Matich found a large clear plastic baggie containing a white powder substance suspected to be cocaine inside the suspect's vehicle.

As a result of these findings, Caballero-Lazo was charged with multiple offenses: manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony; deadly conduct discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony; and unlawful carrying of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor. He was then taken into custody and booked into the Henderson County Jail. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident.
