Texas A&M-Commerce Graduate Named Finalist for Corsicana ISD Superintendent

Stephanie Howell

In a unanimous decision during a special meeting on Friday morning, the Corsicana Independent School District (CISD) Board of Trustees has selected Stephanie Howell as the lone finalist for Superintendent of schools. Howell, a native of Corsicana, has been serving as the Deputy Superintendent since July 2023, bringing with her years of experience within the district.

The vote marks a significant step in the succession plan following the retirement announcement of Dr. Diane Frost, who has led the district for 14 years. Howell's appointment comes after a thorough search process involving input from various stakeholders within the community.

"Stephanie Howell emerged as the clear choice to guide our district into the future following a search process that included input from stakeholders across our community," stated Board President Dr. Seth Brown. "She has experience ranging from teacher to principal to administration, and we believe in her leadership abilities when it comes to the education of our students, the growth of our staff, and service to our community. She knows the heartbeat of Corsicana."

Howell, a graduate of Corsicana High School's class of 1994, has a distinguished career in education. She has held positions ranging from Assistant Principal to Executive Director of Technology and Innovation before assuming her current role as Deputy Superintendent.

During her tenure, Howell has remained focused on a core principle: the belief that every child can be successful. Her dedication to student achievement and innovative approaches to education have earned her recognition within the district and beyond.

"I am a Corsicana product who loves my hometown, and my goal will always be to make this a better place for our students, teachers, staff, and community, setting a foundation for future generations," Howell expressed.

The Texas A&M-Commerce graduate, currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education, is set to lead the district into its next chapter. With a track record of accomplishments and a deep understanding of Corsicana's educational landscape, Howell's appointment signifies a promising future for CISD.

“This is an opportunity of a lifetime,” Howell said. “I am a Corsicana product who loves my hometown, and my goal will always be to make this a better place for our students, teachers, staff, and community, setting a foundation for future generations.”

Howell and husband Stephen have two children, son Nick and daughter Makayla, and Layla, their granddaugter.

Per state regulations, there will be a 21-day waiting period before Howell's contract as Superintendent can be finalized. Nevertheless, her selection marks a significant milestone for Corsicana ISD and its ongoing commitment to excellence in education.
