On Friday, March 29th, at 8:15 am, a Paris Police Officer responded to reports of a disturbance in the 1300 block of Bonham Street. Upon arrival, yelling was heard emanating from an apartment. The officer intervened, separating the involved parties.
Ervin Dewayne Barry, aged 43, claimed that a verbal altercation ensued as he suspected the female present of stealing his money. However, the female alleged that Barry, who appeared to be highly intoxicated, initiated a physical altercation upon discovering she had spent $4.00 of his money the previous day. She recounted being punched, dragged, and subjected to a chokehold by Barry.
The officer noted physical injuries on the victim, leading to Barry's arrest and subsequent booking into the Paris Jail on charges of Third-Degree Felony Assault Impeding Breath/Circulation/Family Member.
