In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a routine traffic stop on Lamar Avenue led to the arrest of Kevin Delano Lockett, 57, of Paris, Texas. Lockett, a passenger in the vehicle, drew attention from officers due to suspicious movements as they approached. Upon volunteering his identification, it was discovered that Lockett had multiple misdemeanor traffic warrants.
During a pat-down, officers found .38 caliber ammunition in Lockett's pocket. Further search of the vehicle, with the driver's consent, revealed a .38 special revolver beneath the seat where Lockett had been seated. Both Lockett and the driver denied knowledge of the firearm.
Given Lockett's movements and the presence of ammunition matching the revolver, he was charged with unlawful possession of the handgun. Police later learned that Lockett was a convicted felon, leading to additional charges of felon in possession.
Lockett's bond was set at $5,000, and he has since bonded out of jail.
