On March 26, 2024, at around 3:40 pm, the McKinney Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a suicidal individual armed with a firearm near a creek by the apartment complex in the 8700-block of Stacy Road, McKinney. The caller identified the individual as 30-year-old Robert Olson, who reportedly discharged a firearm in the creek area, threatened his wife, and expressed a desire for suicide by cop.
As Olson and his family exited the creek, they encountered responding officers. Olson fired multiple rounds toward the officers upon seeing them, prompting the officers to return fire, striking Olson multiple times.
The officers provided immediate aid and called for medical assistance. McKinney Fire Department personnel transported Olson to a local hospital for treatment, where medical staff are assessing his condition. The extent of his injuries remains unknown.
No other individuals were harmed during the incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The Texas Rangers will lead the investigation into the matter.
