The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning regarding a phone scam circulating throughout the county. In this scam, individuals impersonate law enforcement officers, claiming to be a lieutenant, sergeant, or deputy from the Sheriff’s Office.
The scammer informs the targeted citizen that there is an outstanding warrant for their arrest. They then pressure the individual to pay a specified amount of money within fifteen minutes to avoid arrest.
Authorities emphasize that the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office does not conduct such calls demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest. They stress that any such communication is fraudulent.
