Forney Man Pleads Guilty to East Texas Woman's Murder After High-Speed Chase

Braylon Diamente Hicks

Braylon Diamente Hicks of Forney pleaded guilty to the murder of Alyssa Beth Flores during a high-speed chase in Van Zandt County back in August 2022.

Hicks entered the guilty plea on Tuesday, March 19th, with the sentencing phase ongoing, according to local court officials.

Hicks was arrested on October 26, 2022, and booked into the Van Zandt County Jail on charges including murder, abandonment/endangerment of a child, and evading arrest with a vehicle.

The incident began when Edgewood police responded to reports of shots fired on Downs Street in Edgewood. Upon arrival, they discovered Flores deceased and a 5-month-old child missing from the scene.

Following a high-speed chase, during which Hicks' vehicle reached speeds exceeding 120 mph, law enforcement deployed spikes, causing Hicks to exit the vehicle on Highway 80 east of the gateway bridge. He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment.

The 5-month-old child, who had been taken from the scene of the shooting, was found unharmed in Hicks' vehicle. Although not secured in a safety seat, the infant was taken by Child Protective Services for evaluation.
