Multi-County High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash in Smith County

Officials are investigating a high-speed chase that unfolded across multiple counties on March 18, 2024.

The Smith County Sheriff's Office reported that the chase commenced in Van Zandt County before crossing into Smith County around 6:55 p.m.

Authorities stated that the driver of a pickup truck refused to comply with attempts to pull over, continuing onto Hwy. 110 into Tyler. Allegedly, the suspect vehicle reached speeds exceeding 100 mph. Upon reaching Loop 323, where spikes were deployed, the driver made a right turn onto the loop and subsequently crashed near Hwy. 64 W.

Emergency services transported the driver to a local hospital for medical attention. Subsequently, the individual was apprehended by the Van Police Department and detained in the Van Zandt County Jail.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
