On Sunday, March 17, 2024, the Terrell Police Department received distress calls from motorists traveling westbound on Interstate 20, reporting a person standing in the roadway. Calls came in at approximately 12:41 am prompting officers' immediate response.
As officers were en route to the area, a third caller reported colliding with the individual on the road. Initial assessments indicated that the person, identified as 24-year-old Otavius Demond Rose of Terrell, had sustained fatal injuries from the impact and was not breathing. Emergency services, including the Terrell Fire Department and Careflite EMS, were dispatched to the scene.
Rose was pronounced deceased upon their arrival. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was identified as 42-year-old Jarod Hazlett of Livingston. The vehicle in question is a 2019 Ram 2500 truck.
