The Wills Point Police Department responded to a complaint from a victim about a disturbance within the city limits. Upon investigation, it was found that off-duty Officer Christopher Lee Tomlin, 30, was involved in a physical altercation with a family member.
To ensure impartiality, the Van Zandt County Criminal Investigation Unit was called in for an external criminal investigation while the Wills Point Police Department conducted an internal affairs inquiry.
Following the internal investigation, it was determined that Tomlin had violated several department policies. Consequently, his employment with the Wills Point Police Department was terminated, effective March 13, 2024.
Simultaneously, the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office concluded their criminal investigation, securing a warrant for Tomlin's arrest on the charge of Continuous Violence Against the Family, a third-degree felony.
"The actions of this officer are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated," stated Police Chief Aaron W. Long, "we, as Officers of the law, are to be held to a higher standard to include - ethics, morals and conduct.."
Tomlin was taken into custody on March 13th.
