Scam Alert: Greenville Police Warn Residents of Jury Summons Scam

The Greenville Police Department has issued a scam alert after receiving reports of a fraudulent scheme targeting residents in the area.

According to the police department, individuals posing as law enforcement officers have been contacting residents and claiming they owe fines for failing to appear at a federal jury summons. The scammers then request victims to transfer money or use Apple Pay, often directing them to make payments at Walmart.

"We have received reports about someone identifying themselves as Law Enforcement going around requesting 'fines' to be paid relating to failure to appear at a Federal Jury Summons," stated the Greenville Police Department in a public announcement.

Authorities emphasize that neither the Greenville Police Department nor any surrounding agencies engage in such practices. These requests for payment are part of a scam operation targeting unsuspecting individuals.

"We want to remind residents that these are scams," urged the Greenville Police Department.

Residents who have encountered similar situations are urged to contact the Greenville Police Department to report the scam at 903-457-2900.
