Hopkins County Sheriff Deputies responded to reports of a disturbance at an address, finding a mother with the victim and the victim's child in her vehicle. The suspect, identified as Tyler William Barton Schleicher, was located at his residence nearby. The victim reported being assaulted by Schleicher, who appeared heavily intoxicated.
Schleicher was detained and showed signs of intoxication, including red, glassy eyes, slurred speech, and unsteady movement. Despite attempts to communicate, Schleicher refused to provide his side of the story.
Investigation revealed that the altercation began when Schleicher, highly intoxicated, attempted to sleep with their three-week-old child on his chest. The victim intervened, taking the child to the living room. Schleicher followed, and the argument escalated, with Schleicher allegedly attempting to flip the couch where the victim sat with the child. The victim was pushed into a TV, sustaining injuries.
Further examination of the residence showed signs of a struggle, with the couch overturned and a broken TV screen. Deputies determined Schleicher as the primary aggressor, endangering the child's safety.
Schleicher was transported to Hopkins County Jail and charged with endangering a child and assaulting a family member causing bodily injury. The necessary legal procedures were followed, including the completion of reports and victim notification.
The victim received assistance, and Schleicher remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
