On March 7, 2024, the Harrison County Sheriff's Office responded to a call reporting a break-in at a residence. The complainant described the intruder as a Hispanic individual dressed in military camouflage clothing. The suspect was said to have left the scene heading north towards I-20.
A Deputy intercepted the suspect on Hwy 43 South in Marshall, TX, where he was apprehended. Upon contacting the complainant for further details, the suspect was read his Miranda Warning.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Alex Ortiz of Horton, AL, confessed to breaking into the home and consuming two beers. He stated that past events had provoked his anger, leading him to throw a hammer through a window before leaving the premises.
Ortiz was subsequently booked into the Harrison County Jail on charges of burglary of habitation.
