Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office took action on March 6, 2024, executing two murder warrants related to a fentanyl overdose incident that occurred on February 16, 2024. During that incident, three inmates overdosed on fentanyl, resulting in two hospitalizations and one fatality.
Following the incident, the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the Texas Rangers to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances. As a result, two current inmates, Joshua Guynn Thomas, 27, and Spencer Thomas Stewart Jr., 33, are now facing murder charges in connection with the overdose. Both individuals have bonds set at $500,000 each.
Sheriff’s investigators and the Texas Rangers worked diligently to collect evidence and reconstruct the events leading up to the overdose. The severity of the charges filed against the two inmates underscores the seriousness of the situation.
