Large Fire Threatens Caddo Grasslands in Fannin County

On Monday, March 4th, 2024, the Fannin County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) received a report concerning significant smoke in the Monkstown area. Upon reaching the location, emergency responders observed a large fire burning on private land that had spread into the Caddo Grasslands area north of CR 2415. The Telephone and Honey Grove Volunteer Fire Departments were promptly alerted and dispatched to the scene. Additionally, the assistance of the US Forest Service was requested.

As of 10:00 PM, the US Forest Service is actively engaged in containment efforts, employing bulldozers to establish fire lines. Fortunately, with the decrease in wind intensity and the rise in humidity levels, the fire's forward progress has slowed down. Efforts are underway to control and contain the blaze effectively.
