Two Sherman police officers are currently undergoing evaluation and treatment after being attacked by an individual during their response to a call for service early Monday morning.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Monday, March 4, officers were dispatched to Highway 75 and Park Street in response to a report of a woman walking on the freeway. Upon arrival, law enforcement located a 24-year-old male, later identified as Jose Gomez. Subsequent investigation revealed that an altercation had occurred between the female and Gomez while they were traveling and stopped in Sherman.
Gomez, uncooperative with officers, began striking several members of law enforcement before attempting to flee the scene in a vehicle. During his escape attempt, Gomez collided with two patrol cars before being apprehended by officers.
The injured officers were transported to Wilson N Jones Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
Jose Gomez of Arlington has been arrested and booked into the Grayson County Jail, facing charges including two counts of Assault on a Public Servant, Resisting Arrest, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Felony Criminal Mischief. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
