Texarkana Police Apprehend Machete-Wielding Suspect After Intense Standoff

Kevin Neal

Texarkana Police Department responded to a suspicious person call this morning at McDonald's, reporting a man armed with a machete and a whip. The individual fled the scene, prompting a pursuit by officers. After locating him a few blocks away, the man brandished the machete, refusing to comply with officers' commands.

Despite attempts to subdue him using non-lethal methods such as a pepper gun and bean bag rounds, the suspect continued to pose a threat, swinging the weapon at officers as he walked down New Boston Road. The situation escalated as officers pursued him to the 2700 block of Texas Blvd, where they finally managed to apprehend him after a physical struggle, during which one officer sustained minor injuries.

Kevin Neal, aged 32, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses including evading detention, resisting arrest, and aggravated assault. Following medical clearance, he will be booked into the Bi-State Jail.

Fortunately, the injured officer's injuries were minor, although his glasses were broken. He has since been treated and released from the hospital. The Texarkana Police Department commended its officers for their professional handling of the dangerous situation.
