On February 28th, 2024, at approximately 9:55 PM, the Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) responded to a distress call reporting harassment at the apartments located at 1708 Shadywood Lane. However, upon arrival, officers were confronted with a more serious situation.
An MPPD officer discovered a male with multiple gunshot wounds outside the apartment door. Despite immediate emergency aid, the victim, identified as Joshua Freeman, 41, of Longview, Texas, succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Titus Regional Medical Center (TRMC).
The preliminary investigation indicated that an altercation ensued between Freeman and another male resident of the apartment, resulting in Freeman being shot multiple times. The identity of the other individual involved is being withheld due to the ongoing investigation, but they were present at the scene and have been detained by authorities.
Multiple witnesses were identified and questioned regarding the incident. As of now, no additional suspects are believed to be at large, and no arrests have been made.
