Drunk Man Sets Fire in Home, Endangers Children in Sulphur Springs Incident

Juan Ramon Gutierrez

Hopkins County Communications received a report of a disturbance at a residence in Sulphur Springs on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. According to the communication, an individual at the residence had set a stove on fire. Deputies arrived at the scene and encountered Juan Ramon Gutierrez, who appeared to be highly intoxicated. Gutierrez was detained and his wife informed the deputies that he had come home drunk and started causing damage to the house. She reported that Gutierrez had attempted to set a bean bag on fire while she and their three children were asleep inside.

Upon investigation, deputies found significant damage in the kitchen area, including a knocked-over stove and refrigerator. Gutierrez's wife expressed concern for the safety of their children and requested to remove them from the residence. Deputies determined that Gutierrez's actions had put two of the children, both under the age of 15, at risk of harm.

As a result, Gutierrez was arrested for Abandoning or Endangering Child, specifically for the two younger children. Deputies documented the scene and transported Gutierrez to the Hopkins County Jail, where he was handed over to jail staff. The incident was resolved with no further issues.

Juan Ramon Gutierrez faces charges of Abandoning or Endangering a Child, with further details indicating two counts related to the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office.
