Sherman Man Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Fifth DWI Conviction

Larry Kitchens

A Sherman man, identified as 67-year-old Larry Kitchens, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison following his fifth DWI conviction, as confirmed by the Grayson County District Attorney’s Office. The sentence comes as part of a plea agreement stemming from an incident dating back to October 2021.

Authorities were alerted to Kitchens' situation when Sherman Police received a call reporting concern about an intoxicated individual in a parked vehicle at a local business. According to reports, Kitchens admitted to the caller that he was drunk and disoriented. Upon police arrival, Kitchens handed over an empty vodka bottle when asked for his driver’s license.

Following the discovery, Kitchens underwent field sobriety tests, leading to his subsequent arrest. A subsequent blood test revealed a blood alcohol level of .138, well above the legal limit.

The District Attorney’s Office noted that this was not Kitchens' first encounter with the law. Prior convictions include serving prison time for DWI, unlawfully possessing a firearm as a felon, and failing to register as a sex offender.
