In a morning incident on Monday, a prisoner escaped custody while receiving treatment at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Kaufman, leading to a rapid response from Kaufman County law enforcement agencies. At approximately 10:40 am, the prisoner managed to flee into a nearby wooded area. Authorities initiated a pursuit.
Additional deputies from the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department, Kaufman County Constables, and officers from the City of Kaufman Police Department collaborated to establish a perimeter around the hospital and the surrounding area. As a precautionary measure, Kaufman ISD campuses, Kaufman Christian School, and local daycares were placed on lockdown.
At approximately 11:00 am, the escaped prisoner was located within the wooded area and taken back into custody without further incident. Following the apprehension, authorities notified educational institutions and daycares, lifting the lockdown measures.
