In the early hours of this morning, the Lufkin Police Department made arrests in connection to a recent drive-by shooting on Ross Avenue. Chey Venegas, 18, and David Brown, 17, both residents of Lufkin, have been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the incident that took place at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the 1000 block of Ross Avenue. During the shooting, a male victim inside a residence sustained gunshot wounds to the legs. The victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Despite the fleeing of the suspect vehicle from the scene, diligent investigative work by law enforcement officers led them to Venegas and Brown shortly after midnight. The two suspects were apprehended without resistance.
Additionally, Venegas and Brown were found to have outstanding warrants related to an aggravated robbery that occurred earlier this month on Fair Street.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, both individuals remain in custody at the Angelina County Jail, with their bonds collectively set at $1,000,000.
