Margaret Claire Burris, a 23-year-old teacher from Marshall, Texas, has been arrested following allegations of an improper relationship with an 16-year-old student.
The Marshall Police Department has taken charge of the investigation after receiving information from the Marshall Independent School District (MISD) Police Department on February 14, 2024.
The investigation was initiated after MISD Superintendent received a notification from MISD School Board President Brad Burris regarding the alleged misconduct. According to authorities, text messages and photos, some of which were sexually explicit, were exchanged between the teacher and the student. These communications were discovered after a search warrant was executed on the student's cell phone.
Forensic examination of the cell phone yielded evidence that led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Margaret Claire Burris. She was apprehended on the morning of Saturday, February 17, 2024, and is now facing one count of Improper Relationship between Educator and Student, classified as a 2nd Degree Felony.
The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities have stated that additional charges may be filed as more information comes to light.
